This carefully handcrafted box was the first project I made during my fine furniture design and making course.
The top surface of the box lid is made from hand-cut veneer pieces in fumed oak, mahogany and rippled sycamore, to my own design. The box sides are solid American walnut and the front and back are solid maple. The dovetailed corners show up nicely in the contrasting colours of the sides and ends.
The internal trays are also made of walnut and maple, with keyed mitres joints in the corners. The tray bases are matched walnut veneer. To hold the trays above the base I have made hand-turned walnut pegs.
Why a “List Lover’s Box”? Just look inside the box. Here you will see an arrangement of carefully designed spaces in which to put all the pens, pencils, small notepads, sticky notes and large A4 papers that any lover of list making could possibly want! Both internal trays are removable, but you only need to lift one up, to access A4 sized paper in the space below.
This box not only has a carefully designed interior to make it useful, but with its handcrafted veneered lid it is also an item of beauty.
