The overall impression of the drawers is of a contemporary style, with the curved sides giving a more sweeping and elegant shape than a simple rectangular design. Detail has been included in the curved sides in the form of vee-grooves cut into cherry inserts. These give the impression of cherry coloured pin-stripes to tie in with the the cherry handles and add a splash of lighter colour to the dark walnut. The top, carcass and drawer fronts are walnut, with contrasting maple for the internal parts of the drawers. The handles are cherry, with a curved finish to complement the shape of the sides.
This chest of drawers is approximately 400 wide x 350 deep x 600 high, which is large enough to store several things in, but small enough to stand beside a chair and not dominate a room.
The construction of this piece is traditional, with dovetailed joints on the drawers, front and back. A lot of dovetails! But to my mind they are well worthwhile and add beauty to an elegant and simple-looking piece.
